Advent Calendars!

Did you have an advent calendar as a child? You know the paper little pre-perforated doors with a festive background motif, and the thin chocolate behind the little door? Or if you were unlucky the chocolate had dropped out of its little holder and fallen to the bottom of the calendar? The anticipation of Christmas, those 24 doors of slightly varying sizes and the thought that on the 25 day, the magic was here!

My sister and I used to share an advent calendar. We would alternate days, all in anticipation of this small piece of chocolate and helping us mark time to the big day!

I remember we would hassle mum for this calendar the minute they hit the shop shelves, until we were old enough to realise the chocolate was always just slightly disappointing! I do smile quietly to myself these days as I walk the shops full of such advent calendars and listen to all to familiar cries of 'oh but mum please can I have one,' 'mum you know I will be good', 'no mum I won't open it before December 1!'

Now it would be foolish to think that a chocolate shop wouldn't have an advent calendar, and well last year we did not! Last year the elves had exhausted their efforts stocking the shop for opening, but this year, oh yes this year they have been on the ball! This year you can purchase one of our wooden advent calendars, which has the added bonus of being refillable for many years to come, and have it filled with handmade chocolates from the Nutpatch selection! This should avoid disappointment when you open the little door! And should you open the little door just a tiny bit ahead, for that sneaky peak, you can always save face by coming in and replacing said chocolate and no one will ever know!

If you are interested in one of these advent calendars then please come in early, as stocks are limited.

Go on indulge yourself and embrace the spirit of Christmas!

Cake, Cake, Cake!

Let's face it, who doesn't love cake? I think most people would answer yes to loving cake. I myself love the stuff. If I could live in a cake shop I think I would be eternally happy! Well until they would have to roll me out the door that is! Everything in moderation! In the first few years of my professional career cake provided me so much comfort, that was until fitting with my last comment about being rolled out the door, my clothes started to get tighter, and while it was great to think the washing machine was shrinking the clothes, it probably wasn't the most reasonable explanation!

Anyway now that cake is more of a treat and less of a stress buster, I would have to say special occasions are the best times for cake.

At Nutpatch confectionery we have been helping others celebrate their special occasions with personally designed and crafted cakes. Made to order these cakes can be anything you would like them to be! I have included some pictures below of some of our most recent cakes, for you to feast your eyes on (that sort of feasting is strictly calorie free)!

If you would like to order one of our unique cakes, please feel free to drop into the shop and talk with John or Sarah, who would be more than happy to help you with your ideas and give you a quote!

Father Christmas and Another Year Has Gone By!

Christmas day is getting closer with each sleep! Can you believe we are in November? I can't! I know I have mentioned it in previous posts, but where has the year gone? When you think about it, time is time and it can only pass at the same rate, but perhaps as we get older our perception of the rate time passes changes. Anyway because its July in my head, I have struggled this year with getting into the preparation phase for Christmas (and usually I am well into it by now)! Luckily the Nutpatch Chocolatiers have not suffered from this same delusion and are well into the swing of making handmade goods for Christmas. On the other hand I have just managed to soak my kilograms of dried fruit in brandy and honey, in order to make my traditional Christmas cakes! Last year I was slightly ambitious and made six times the recipe, which makes 13 cakes of various sizes! This year I have settled for a four times the recipe, and well we will just have to see how that works out! But tradition is tradition and so it must go on!

This Christmas is our second year in our beautiful chocolate shop! Yes we are soon to be days away from our 1 year anniversary! We have so much more in store this year for your enjoyment. Today I would like to share with you Father Christmas. Anyone who came in to the shop at Easter would have noticed Giant Easter Bunny and well Santa is of a similar size! He has already been rather popular with many orders placed for this wonder work of art! Made in milk, dark or white chocolate Santa is sure to satisfy most chocolate lovers! He is made to order, so if you think you might like one on your Christmas table this year, then drop in to the Nutpatch shop and place your order sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment!
